Virtual Koi Puppet

Description

The Koi Puppet began as a prototype created to explore how a fish could move with a smooth, flowing motion while still feeling like a puppet. The design focuses on the gentle movement of a koi, especially the way the body and tail seem to follow one another through the water.

Koi are often associated with perseverance, transformation, and strength because of the way they are traditionally connected with swimming against strong currents. Those ideas helped shape the character and the calm but determined feeling of the puppet.

This prototype was used to test movement, balance, and the relationship between the different parts of the body before developing a more complete version. It became an early experiment in creating softer, more fluid motion compared with the heavier and more mechanical movement of some of our other puppets.
